A Musical Life

Annette is a writer,actor and classically trained singer with a love of the blues genre. As a young artist she formed a blues group with former husband Victor Brox. She later toured Europe with Alexis Korner’s ‘New Church’ and appeared at the Royal Albert Hall and Festival Hall with him. She has a degree in Dance and studied for her Diploma in Opera perfomance at Birkbeck with RAM's vocal coach, Mary Hill.

Her recording credits include albums, Sweet Pain, Death Sting Me, Rollin’ Back, Jesus Christ Superstar,  Annette's classical training and love of opera can be heard in her solo performances in concerts with City of Manchester Opera.  She also sang a cameo role on Victorian Opera’s Maid of Artois by Balfe.Her versatility can be heard on the iconic dance track Dream 17 produced by Mike Pickering ( M People) and featuring the late Richie Close currently on Youtube! She now performs as a duo, Velvet Landscape with jazz guitarist Paul Birtwell

Se has made television and radio performances, in 2005 played the role of Essie, wife of Paul Robeson in Tayo Aluko's first draft of his successful award winning one- man play, Call Mr Robeson

In 2008 she appeared in Feelgood Theatre’s production of Eloquent Protest III at Trafalgar Studios in London ( director Caroline Clegg) and then in Nepal with Hazel Roy’s production of Eloquent Protest Nepal at the first International Theatre Festival in Kathmandu Nepal.


In 2010 Annette with Hazel Roy  performed the musical play 'The Messenger' (Created by Annette and Hazel Roy. ) It won an award for best Play at the Internatioal Theatre Festival in Kathmandu.

In 2016 Annette was nominated for an award at the Buxton Fringe for her one woman performance in her scripted story of three Queens of the Blues- Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone .
